The name causes plenty of confusion. Despite the branding, 'Hair Botox' has nothing to do with the injectable medicine offered in cosmetic clinics.
What it really is
It's a marketing term used by some hairdressing salons for a deep-conditioning or smoothing treatment. Formulations vary between brands but usually combine proteins, oils and conditioning agents applied to the hair shaft.
There is no botulinum toxin involved, no injection, and no prescription medicine.
Questions worth asking a salon
Ask exactly what's in the product, whether it contains formaldehyde-releasing ingredients, how long the effect lasts and how it interacts with colour-treated hair.
If you have scalp sensitivity or allergies, raise that before the treatment rather than on the day.
Why the distinction matters
Injectable Botox is a prescription medicine that must be administered by a qualified healthcare professional after an individual assessment. A salon conditioning treatment sits in an entirely different category with different regulation.
